The Kirklands

Bar, Restaurant and Hotel, Kinross

Working with an historic listed building is always a challenge but one we relish. The owners of the Kirkland’s wanted to breath a new lease of life into their bar and restaurant which sits at the centre of the popular town of Kinross. Keen to strike the right balance between contemporary and shabby chic, incorporating a warm and comfortable local theme designed to encapsulate the essence of the place, we cleverly combined warm but modern colours, fabrics, furniture, lighting and accessories, to create comfortable yet practical spaces, that would accommodate every aspect of the business and ensure the atmosphere suited the building, its purpose and its customers.

We papered the main wall with a map of the local area to create a talking point amongst the locals and visitors, and used our sister company, Blackhouse, to design and handcraft bespoke Harris Tweed seats, cushions and coverings, for that contemporary Scottish feel. For the more formal dining space to the rear of the bar, we used leather seats and booths with warm lighting and wooden floors to achieve a more prestigious yet comfortable setting with a bit of rustic thrown in.

The owners were also keen to keep their options open for further expansion and asked that we secure planning permission for a potential additional café area. We secured all permissions and scheduled the work to commence while the venue was taking its annual closure in January to avoid any disruption to their existing business.

We upgraded their kitchens and our design team handled all the branding and signage designs, ensuring everything was complete for re-opening. We were on-site for just 3 weeks.

This project involved using all trades and the outcome has received widespread PR which is not only good for us, but fantastic for their business. The Kirklands achieved a return on their investment within the first year of trading since it’s re-opening.
